Fred and Laura on Tour

Happy Birthday Laura!

We awoke on Monday morning to glorious sunshine, cockerels crowing and news that the mountain was open to skiers again, result! As it was Laura's Birthday a relaxing morning was had by a few of us and we enjoyed a lovely breakfast of OJ and freshly made pancakes courtesy of chef Sked. Here is the birthday girl relaxing in the sun on our deck.

The mountains were looking amazing and we couldn't wait to get up there and throw ourselves down them.

Once the pancakes had been munched and ski attire organised, we ascended the slopes. The drive to the ski field was very picturesque and we got some nice snaps of the Tongariro national park and mountains that the Tongariro crossing is made up of. These were the mountains used to represent Mount Doom in Lord of the Rings!

As we'd arrived at the ski field quite late, we took our free scenic trip up the mountain to get some more snaps and enjoy the views. What views they were!

Then it was onto our ski lesson and we did fantastically well considering Laura hadn't skied before and I hadn't been on ski's in 13 years. We loved the first day and couldn't wait to get back up there and hit some higher slopes.
On return to the cabin we witnessed a beautiful sunset

before we headed into town for Laura's Birthday meal at the Powderhorn, a brilliant recommendation by Rhys. The food was awesome and very much needed. After this feast the 10 of us ventured back to the cabin to continue the celebrations and tuck into the mammoth cake we'd bought.

Laura here now
!....I just wanted to say that I had an amazing time and thank you to all who were there and helped to make it a memorable and special day! Also thanks so much to friends and family back home for their texts, presents and phonecalls!

  • Oh yes, Sal and I have indeed joined forces (as have others) and are taking Aberdeen by storm! Since she got back we have been drinking every day, usually to the point of excess. I think you'll have guessed that from the drunken messages (or should that be drunjen?) that I've sent to Fred recently though.

I have been trying to post for the past wee while to say Happy Birthday but the stupid computer wouldn't let me. Sorted now though so a (very) belated Happy Birthday Laura and I'm glad you had a great day.

We of course cannot wait until you guys get back and make the trip up here.
