Fred and Laura on Tour

Finally, we have a flat!

After months of searching and many nights spent at the wonderful YHA and the amiable Cambridge, we have found ourselves a flat. It is situated in Hataitai, which is a 5 minute bus journey from the city centre and the other side of Mount Victoria. We moved in on Wednesday and have had to frantically organise furniture, bills, and general flat stuff. It's a cool little place. When I say cool...i mean that in the literal sense too...its freezin! We've purchased a good few heaters and are looking into getting the fire in the living room up and running. We are in such despair as to why Kiwi's haven't cottened on to the glorious invention known as "central heating" or "double glazing".
We are really pleased with our first little flat together though, its a gem.

  • Fraser is that the view from your back porch/balcony??

It looks like the closing scene in the "If Carlsberg where to be Flat Mates they would probably be ....." advert (where the new guy has to take the loft room and his balcony overlooks the football stadium).

Surely that is a wind up and the back door view is over washing lines? Dad

  • Guys, this looks amazing! I'm even more sad I'm not going to get to see it in the flesh. Might I suggest hot water bottles as a temporary solution to your heating crisis? They got me through many a chilly night in Island Bay! Sal x

  • Thanks for all the comments so far everyone, it's great to hear from you all. The picture of the view is indeed from our sitting room window, and also the view from our deck, I predict many BBQ's will be had on said deck. We've spent the weekend settling in, cooking (blissful not to have to queue for the kitchen!), and adding a few home comforts....you may have noticed the old skool 'lazy boy' I purchased from the Salvo's for a mere $25. Bargain!

  • The place looks great guys. That view certainly beats the one I have from my bedroom window of a bloody cemetery!
